You've Got a Friend

My Dad is in the hospital. He has had a rough year....or more. Oh, my heart hurts for him right now. He had surgery last Thursday, was supposed to come home the next day, and now Tuesday, is still in the hospital AND he has to have another surgery on something totally unrelated to his original surgery.

I was thinking of my Dad. I love him. He has rough edges and I often-times feel like I irritate him, but oh how much I love him AND how very, very much I know he loves me. Nothing would stand between him and me if he needed to help me.

I heard "You've Got a Friend." by James Taylor the other day at the pool and it just spoke to me about my father's love. I've got an incredible, amazing friend in my father. The words of the song are him speaking to me. He has always been so dedicated to me and my siblings. He is just an amazing man. I love him painfully right now.

He doesn't do well with surgeries, mentally OR physically. I fully expect that this additional surgery that he wasn't planning on will be a mortal blow to him, either ending in death, or a great detriment to his physical abilities.

Oh, please ask God's name would be glorified in all of this, no matter the outcome. Please Lord, keep my family from getting far away from Your grace and beauty. Lord, help my earthly father see you clearly. Please.

YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND
James Taylor

When you're down and troubled
and you need a helping hand,
and nothing, whoa nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me
and soon I will be there
to brighten up even your darkest nights.

You just call out my name,
and you know wherever I am
I'll come running, oh yeah baby
to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall,
all you got to do is call
and I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You've got a friend.

If the sky above you
should turn dark and full of clouds
and that old north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together and call my name out loud now
and soon I'll be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall
all you got to do is call
and I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend?
People can be so cold.
They'll hurt you and desert you.
Well they'll take your soul if you let them.
Oh yeah, but don't you let them.

You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Oh babe, don't you know that,
Winter spring summer or fall,
Hey now, all you've got to do is call.
Lord, I'll be there, yes I will.
You've got a friend.
You've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
You've got a friend.
