School Allows Second-Grade Boy to Dress as a Girl

A second-grader has decided he wants to dress like a girl — and his Denver-area elementary school has decided that's perfectly fine. Teachers will call him by a girl's name, and two unisex bathrooms have been made available — thus reinforcing the boy's gender confusion.

Dr. Dean Byrd, a member of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality, said most children go through curious phases as they explore the world around them.

“Premature closure on such an important issue as gender identity doesn’t bode well for young children," Byrd told Family News in Focus. “Boys are curious about boys, and they’re curious about girls. I don’t want this to be translated to a label for a child so young.”

Whei Wong, Douglas County Schools spokesman, told NBC's Denver affiliate: "As a public school system, our calling is to educate all kids no matter where they come from, what their background is, beliefs, values, it doesn't matter."
